Welcome to our Bay Midwives Website

We feel passionate about women's health and wellbeing and believe in working in partnership with women during the natural life events of pregnancy, childbirth and early motherhood. Discussing options and giving informed choice is an important part of our role as midwives. We would love to be there for you during this special time.

Yoka Knox

Hi, my name is Yoka Johanna Knox. I have been a midwife since 2003 and love my job. I cannot imagine doing anything else. It’s such a privilege working with women and their families at such a wonderful time of their life.

I love supporting women through normal labour and birth, always referring them to the appropriate professional necessary. I look after women and their family during pregnancy, labour and birth and up to 4-6 weeks after birth. I am on call 24/7 11 out of 14 days, taking every second weekend off to spend with my own family and to refuel for the next 2 weeks on call.

I am married to a wonderful man named Matt and We have a son Jakob born in 2012. I am also an aunty to four beautiful children of my sister.

I love outdoor sports as does my husband and I do a number of crafts/hobbies.

I look forward to meeting you and travelling with you during this special time of your life. Feel free to meet me anytime.

Thanks, Yoka.

Beatrix Exeter

Hello, my name is Beatrix. I have been a midwife since 1987 and been part of over 1000 births in Germany and New Zealand. I LOVE my job and never stop being fascinated and moved by the miracle of life. I feel so privileged to be part of the life-changing events of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. I enjoy working in partnership with women and their families.

From 1998 till 2010 I had a break from midwifery to concentrate on my own family commitments. I have four children (2 stepchildren) and live with my husband and children in the country behind Bay View.

I would like to provide my rural community with midwifery services (home visits available) and also run a Napier-based clinic at 'The Midwifery Centre' 234 Kennedy Rd.

If you would like to find out more about me before choosing your midwife I am happy to meet you for an informal visit.

Thanks, Beatrix.

Kayla Hughes

Hello and congratulations on your pregnancy! My name is Kayla Hughes and I have had a passion for midwifery from an early age. I came to midwifery because I love working with women and families, I love physiological birth and being able to follow women in this amazing journey.

I am a qualified pregnancy acupuncturist and offer this service free of charge to women in my care if they choose. I believe in supporting and empowering women to have autonomy over their pregnancy and birth. I have a passion for physiological birth and home birth but feel comfortable in both a primary and hospital setting.

I was born and raised in Hawke's Bay and love living in this beautiful city. In my free time, I enjoy reading books, walking my dog, Anakin, and watching documentaries.

Thanks, Kayla.
